Russian Visa Application Undergoes Changes

Russian Visa Application Undergoes Changes

On 10 December 2014, the Russian Federation will implement a new visa requirement. It states that going forward from this date, all applicants for this visa from the UK, Myanmar, Denmark, Namibia and the Russian Foreign Ministry's representative office at the border crossing in Vnukovo International Airport will have to furnish biometric data in the form of fingerprints.Anyone planning to travel to the country will have to attend a face-to-face meeting at the embassy, failing which they will not be issued with a visa. This is just a pilot project which will later on be extended at all Russian diplomatic missions and consular offices. This fingerprinting step has been introduced not with the intention of tightening Russia's visa policy but to make it an integral part of modernization, in the wake of the US and the UK visa procedures. This procedure will do away with negative activities like terrorism and illegal migration. However, this new visa requirement is not applicable to children below 12 years of age and will not affect diplomatic and official visa issuing.
