Dubai hub of New Diamond Route

The world’s new silk route is a string of diamonds and Dubai is the hub of this new diamond route. The New Diamond Route is going through a historic transformation as it becomes nearer and straighter. The centre is shifting eastward to Africa, Middle East, India and China. Africa has rough diamonds, which Asia polishes and Dubai sells. That is the New Diamond route equation.

These and other diamond issues are going to be discussed at the two-day inaugural conference to be held here on March 18 and 19. The venue is the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, the Dubai Diamond Exchange that is going to host the inaugural.

The Dubai Diamond Exchange has welcomed Ministers for Mines of key African countries, leading `diamantaires,’ industry experts and trade members from around the world for the conference. They are expected to discuss the opportunities resulting from this shift from Brussels and Antwerp and how to strengthen trade links.

Dubai has really worked for the diamond status. The DMCC was set up in 2002, and ever since it has focused on establishing Dubai as the global gateway to commodities trade by building and enhancing its physical and financial infrastructure, rules and regulations and products and services. It has launched the Dubai Diamond Exchange and the Dubai Gold and Commodities Exchange.
