Tourist flow increases to Australia

Visitors to Australia increased to more than five and a half million last year, with Indians and Chinese tourists topping the list.

Tourist spending also increased from $18.2 billion to $18.9bn as per latest reports by International Visitor Survey show.

"This shows that Chinese visitors are coming to Australia cashed-up and ready to spend," Tourism and Transport Form acting CEO Trent Zimmerman said.

"It also helps that their currency has remained relatively steady against the Australian dollar over the past five years."

"These results prove the Australian tourism offering is competitive and well regarded in the international arena."
